Skoda Octavia Hatchback (2004 - 2012) 1.6 TDI CR Greenline 5d Owner Review

In their own words
I drove Nissan Primeras for several years and came to expect that cars didn't go wrong nowadays. Sadly Primeras are no longer made. Bought Octavia at 7,000 miles in expectation of 'green' and economical motoring. I was impressed by the space in the car and I like the radio / CD player. It apparently topped customer satisfaction polls. I cannot understand why!!! I'm disappointed: it will do 70 mpg when in limp mode and restricted to 60 mph on the flat. Causes for limp mode are failing DPF and ERG valve and fuel injectors, all of which are over £400 to fix. All springs have needed to be replaced, and it's a complicated job to remove the front ones, especially as the fasteners have to be cut off. The battery goes flat for no apparent reason and a pinging alarm is often present. Diagnostics can find no reason for this.
How reliable do you find the car?
Engine problems: requires expensive diesel and still cokes up, although only used on journeys where engine will get warmed up. I learned the hard way after replacing 2 fuel injectors at £400+ that supermarket diesel doesn't suit this car - and it warns against biodiesel on the filler flap!About their car
