The CR170 DSG octavia is a fine car that quite nicely fills the gap between a quiet commuter and something a little more exciting for those spirited moments, easy to live with, not particularly thirsty- but when it comes down to it the DSG box offers constant torque and the flick of your wrist. The novelty of the paddle shifters is lost on long motorway drives and the convenience of the auto mode takes over. However under no circumstances is this car boring: however the suspension feels spongy through tight corners and i’ve never learned to completely trust the grip in this like i did in my much heavier and much less sporty b5.5 passat.
overall i’d recommend this car to a young driver wanting something a little bit more serious coming from sedated options like 1.6 golfs and vehicles of that class but also something equally as practical and reliable.
