**************************Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0T FSI vRS Hatchback 5d 2011/61********************** Cam Chain Lifter Failure - AVOID at all cost. A wonderful car destroyed by a fundemental design flaw. Cam Chain stretched, Cam Chain lifter failed, Interference Engine, Engine destroyed, all at 15 mph without warning. A tiny rattle was heard and 30 seconds later engine destroyed. No dashboard warning lights. Vehicle recovered to SKODA main dealer who charged £79 to stick a telescopic camera in to confirm. New engine required - £5000 ! I have been advised that the timing chain / lifter has been redesigned 4 times by VAG for this engine due to this fundemental design flaw and even if you buy a good runner, it will cost you £500 plus to get the latest modified cam chain / lifters changed for piece of mind ( which still does not gurantee it wont fail ). This part is designed "for the life of the vehicle" so will never be inspected/adjusted/replaced. Full main dealer service history is irrelevant. This engine is used in many other varients within the VAG group of cars. A beautiful car ruined by a design flaw. AVOID at all cost.
