Summary
What does this car say about you?
Sensible, cost conscious, likes refinement.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
The response has been very positive, especially from those that have been in it as passengers.
Would you buy this car again and why?
I am selling the car this week! I don't regret buying the car but we now do a much lower annual mileage (mainly town and A-roads) and have a third child on the way.
What are you likely to buy next?
I have just bought a Toyota Verso 1.8 V-matic T-Spirit. The interior is more flexible for three children but we will miss the rear legroom. I am concerned about the long term of reliability of modern diesel engines.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchised
Did you buy this car new?
Yes
What price did you pay?
£14,400
When did you buy the car?
September 2011
Did you get a good deal and why?
I got a very good deal as I was serving with HM Forces in Germany and had the opportunity to buy the car VAT free with an additional discount.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Tax free purchase opportunity.
What was the dealer like?
I bought the car through a broker so I only dealt with the dealer in the final week before collection. The broker was very poor initially (the story is far too long to tell here) but I was able to negotiate a further discount because of this.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Despite its size the car drives very well. Around town it copes well with stop-start traffic and doesn't feel too big. We don't push the car hard but it deals very well with winding country roads. Before buying I read lots of reviews about the 1.6 being underpowered but it has more than enough pace for us.
What's it like to park?
It is too long for many conventional spaces and the lack of front parking sensors makes me regularly get out of the car to check the space in front. The rear parking sensors are essential.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Nothing at all.
What's most practical about your car?
Interior space. The rear legroom made it very easy to deal with two young children. The boot is enormous, swallowing everything we have needed to carry.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
I did not add any optional extras (apart from metallic paint). The most useful option for me has been cruise control (I use it all the time) but the integrated SD memory card reader in the stereo comes a close second.
