Skoda Superb 2.5 V6 TDI Comfort 4d (2003/03) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Makes a Passat look ridiculously expensive. I got an excellent discount and latest reduction in list price means it is amazing value.
Costs
Fuel consumption is first class on a long run for a 2.5litre V6 (45mpg +) but less so in town (38-40mpg). Servicing is based on service indicator and first one at nearly 23,000 miles. £260 seemed a lot.

On the road
Driving
Excellent drive, restful and quiet on a long run. Better handling than the Passat I had some years ago, but still not a sporting driver's car.
Performance
As long as you keep it above 1500rpm it goes like the wind, but below that the turbo is not doing much. 6 speed box gives 36mph/1000rpm cruising and decent acceleration above 60mph. I've seen an indicated 150mph on an unrestricted autobahn.

Living with it
Reliability
Excellent, other than a propensity to eat headlamp bulbs - on my third set after 30,000 miles. Minor probem with display of radio information, solved by garage.
Image
Well there is still some way to go for people to accept Skoda make good large saloons. Time will solve this issue. I remember my first Audi in 1976, a marque that had no image at that time and look at its inflated image now.
Comfort
Really on a par with the best cars around, loads of room, good seats with wide range of adjustment. Ride smoothes out almost any imperfections on the road.

Security and Service
Security
No problems arisen here. Boot is secure, as there are no drop down rear seats.
Service
Excellent support by garage, fitted new headlight bulbs free (do not try this yourself even more difficult than on a Passat) and dealt with other minor issue well. Only quibble is service cost seemed high.
