Smart City Coupe Smart and Passion 2d Auto (01) (2002/52) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Cheap base model "Pure", but can get pricey if you start ticking all the boxes
Costs
If you can drive lightly using minimal turbo boost, it'll happily return 55+ mpg
-
On the road
Driving
For better handling, choose the optional wider alloys and tyres
Performance
Nippy enough for a 599cc twin spark turbo charged engine, letdown by slower gear-changes than an traditional auto box
-
Living with it
Reliability
Only major problem in 43,000 miles has been a driveshaft oil seal replaced under warranty
Image
You don't get much respect on the roads from "rep mobiles", but you can always have the last laugh.
Comfort
I've been on many long motorway journeys without trouble
-
Security and Service
Security
No alarm as standard, but immobilser is very effective. Why would anybody want to steal a smart?
Service
Daimler Chrysler are ok, but most franchised Mercedes-Benz dealers are a waste of space!
