Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 53 - 60 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Economical engine and cheap road tax, and insurance groups were lowered across the board in summer 2005. Residuals are little different to those of the coupé version meaning they’re good for the time being. Servicing tends to be quite expensive.

Fortwo performs remarkably well on the eco front. With an average of 117 g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are impressively low for a mini cabriolet. It’s worth noting that the line-up does not feature any diesel models, which typically produce less carbon dioxide than petrol engines with similar power outputs. The range is extremely frugal, averaging 58 mpg.

Although still a relatively new name in car making, smart is part of the Daimler-Chrysler empire, which includes Mercedes-Benz and Jeep. Build quality and engineering are both good and problems have been few and far between.
