Subaru Impreza Estate 1993-
  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

My 3rd Impreza, I bought it for £11k - not a fault on it and I fully expect it to go for a good number of years.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Petrol consumption is reasonable on a gentle run, back roads and heavy foots will cost though.

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Great fun, just don't get carried away if there's lots of luggage in the boot.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Nippy car, can outrun most family wagons and cruise happily on the motorway. I've not tried yet, but I suspect towing will be unhindered.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Faultless. Typical Japanese mechanics. Interior is ageing a little, but everything works.

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

The turbo scoop, the spoilers and the name, impresses most passers by.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Air con is a must these days, but was optional so shop around for it. Electric windows/mirrors/PAS etc. Sports seats hug nicely.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Standard Impreza alarm isn't much cop. Recommend parking in sensible places, steering wheel locks and tracker. Garage it and hide keys when at home.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Aside from the poor courtousy cars at most dealers, the service is usually good.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

None. In fact, with 70k miles on the clock, it pulls better than other examples I've seen with less miles.
