Subaru Impreza Saloon 1.8 GL 4WD 4d (1996/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Best £2000 I've ever spent.
Costs
Due to full-time 4wd, can be thirsty. No major expenditure in last 12 months apart from a service, which was good value at £160 from a Subaru independant specialist.
-
On the road
Driving
Totally unflappable, no matter the road conditions.
Performance
Not as fast on the straight as a 2wd car of similar engine size, but beats the pants off Beamers, Audis and the like on the bends.
-
Living with it
Reliability
No major worries yet (touch wood). Not bad for a 7 year old car with 125,000 miles on it.
Image
Add a set of 16" alloys for a massive improvement. Looks a lot better than similar sized Escorts and Astras.
Comfort
Seats could do with a little more support.
-
Security and Service
Security
Frameless windows, no alarm or immobiliser are a worry, but luckily I live in rural Cornwall.
Service
Never dealt with them.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Check engine light comes on occasionally, but no fault found.
Other
Boot doesn't lock with central locking.
