Subaru Outback 2.5i Outback 5d Auto (2004/04) Owner Review

Economy
Value
A lot of car for the money compared to other manufacturers.
Costs
When driving to full potential, the fuel economy suffers quite badly.

On the road
Driving
Very comfortable, albeit a firmish ride.
Performance
I feel that the 2nd gear ratio could possibly be slighty better, but generally very good. With 4 wheel drive as standard, road holding is very good and you can accelerate out of corners and from roundabouts safely and quickly.

Living with it
Reliability
Only had the car since March, but no problems to date except for a shock absorber nut that needed to be tightened down, but since then no problem.
Image
The new styling is far superior to the older models and I believe is stylish. Overall a good alternative for an estate over the main competition.
Comfort
Leather seats are excellent, albeit that if I could have got Black leather in the 3.0lt model, I would have probably gone for that model.

Security and Service
Security
Includes a Thatcham 1 Category alarm, so should be no trouble there.
Service
Service team very knowledgeable and helpful, but only had the initial service. Annoying that you have to pay for the oil etc for this initial service less than a month after spending over £20k.
