Summary
What does this car say about you?
Chunky, solid, reliable, just like me!
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Family love it almost as much as I do. Friends are always astounded the first time in it when they expect a 'tractor ride' and experience the acceleration and cornering ability that hides within.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes, yes, yes. I've spent 9 years living with 2 GV V6 'tanks' and whatever I might pay extra for fuel I have probably saved on not having to replace parts often. It does exactly what I want and having driven vans for many years I feel safe with the seat height giving good visibility of what's ahead.
What are you likely to buy next?
If I can find another with low enough mileage it will be another GV V6. Otherwise it might have to be another Suzuki like the XL7.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£2,400
When did you buy the car?
October 2010
Did you get a good deal and why?
I managed to negotiate the price down and was able to give it a thorough test drive and inspection.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I previously had a 1998 GV 2.5 V6 for seven and a half years. It was so good that as soon as I saw one in burgundy with full cream leather I bought it. They are ultra-reliable, safe (if you fit decent tyres such as Matador Conquerra) and an absolutely joy to drive. I have never been stuck in winter even though I live on a steep hill in a county of steep hills!
What was the dealer like?
Small used car dealership in Keighley, Barcroft, was friendly and honest. He didn't try to 'bull' me, but I did know much more about the model than he did.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Many people are put off because it looks big compared to what they are used to driving. It is a breeze to drive and handles so easily and surprisingly well for a 4x4. It's easy around town as it is not too big and motorway journeys are easy as the 2.5 V6 just eats up the miles. My favourite journeys are cross country on roas that twist and turn and have hidden humps and dips, but I do love driving a lot and have covered over 1 million miles as a driver. Driving in the Lake District can fix a grin on your face like a smug camel as it climbs the 1 in 3 hills such as Hardknott, Wrynose, and Honister with consummate ease. I have used many different makes of tyres during 9 years of GV V6 ownership and I would recommend Matador Conquerra as they are safe and secure in the wet.
What's it like to park?
Easy to park using the three mirrors and very good lock on the steering. Good view horizontally and vertically from side mirrors.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Every time I slide onto the leather seat I feel like I'm becoming one again with my old friend. Exhaust has started to blow a little at the front but can be replaced for around £80 - Suzuki Dealer parts can be stupidly expensive, as with most makes, so shop around good auto factors. The engines are bulletproof and run camchains for strength and longevity.
What's most practical about your car?
It goes anywhere without complaining and has enough torque to tow a small planet.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Full leather! I have always loved leather interiors ever since th'owden days of Rover 3.5s in the 1960s. Being able to flick in and out of 4 wheel drive at up to 60mph without having to stop is especially useful in bad weather.
