Other Suzuki Ignis (2000 - 2008) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

To other people, it probably doesn't say very much at all (I can almost hear the girl-racer comments now...) but as a driver's car it is extremely rewarding, especially for the younger of us.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

The family approves of it, though friends tend not to look past the boxy exterior and badge snobbery. Still, there may be a reluctant acceptance there that the Ignis Sport is better than you'd expect.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, as a second daily commuter car if I had a weekender performance car or if the car was damaged beyond repair.

What are you likely to buy next?

Possibly a Suzuki Swift Sport if I wanted a more up to date car, or any number of the great Japanese performance cars that are out there, such as the Honda Integra Type R or the Nissan Skyline R32 GTR.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £3,600

When did you buy the car?

    March 2006

Did you get a good deal and why?

The Ignis Sport is extremely affordable, though at the cost of steep depreciation. Even so, it is a lot of car for the money and well worth it.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Affordable Japanese performance in a small, fun package and the rarity factor

    What was the dealer like?

    N/A

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Performance: The 1.5 engine is eager to rev and quick to accelerate, though at the cost of noise. Top speed is limited but when the speed limit is 70mph you shouldn’t need it. Disc brakes all round result in excellent braking. Handling: The car handles well on smooth roads and better than expected round corners, though a lower centre of gravity would have helped. Comfort: The engine is noisy during spirited acceleration and at motorway cruising speeds. The ride becomes crashy on bumpier surfaces, indicating the suspension was designed for Japanese roads rather than European ones.

    What's it like to park?

Easy to park thanks to the small size and good all-round visibility, though despite power assisted steering the turning circle is not as small as expected.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Virtually no faults, bar a flashing front interior light and the expected replacement of worn tyres.

What's most practical about your car?

The Ignis Sport is more about fun than practicality but taller people can be accommodated easily front and rear, and the fold down rear seats can give a good cargo space.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Recaro seats, Enkei-manufactured lightweight white alloy wheels and Blue-lit speedo and tacho
