1.5 VVT in the Sport offers bargain-priced performance, although the driving experience lacks the spice of some of its rivals. The engine is willing, but hampered by a notchy gearchange. 1.3 is fine for cheap commuting. 1.5 doesn’t need to be worked so hard to perform. Only opt for four-wheel-drive if you need to tackle farm tracks.
Tall body means it rolls on corners although it’s acceptable for this type of car. Steering is imprecise, especially at speed and the gearbox is notchy. Ride in town is a bit rough, but it’s comfortable on the motorway. Five-door 1.5 comes with a four-wheel-drive option, but do you really need it?
