What is miles per pound?
Fuel economy
A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test.
Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 31 - 48 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Avensis models with VVT-i engines have eye-catching 20,000-mile service intervals (although a long space between servicing can be an open invitation to neglect). Good fuel consumption across the range, minimal depreciation on older cars and average insurance groupings.
Cast-iron reliability record; problems are only likely to arrive with ultra-high mileages or neglect. Interior quality is good – up to the standards of a similarly-aged Mondeo or Vectra, but still some way behind German rivals.
