Toyota Avensis Saloon 1.8 CDX 4d (1999/V) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Think my mother overpaid for her car, but it is a Toyota!
Costs
Clutch replacement at 20k miles steep and no help from Toyota. Otherwise cheap running costs.

On the road
Driving
Not sporty, but pretty comfortable leather seats. Instruments are good apart from fingertip controls are not much easier to use than stereo buttons. Very quiet, easy to do 80mph+ without realising.
Performance
Quick enough, no sports car though.

Living with it
Reliability
Maybe we got a 'Friday Car', more problems than expected from a Toyota of 3 years old (at the time)
Image
Not bad, far better looking than the new model.
Comfort
Good on long journeys, comfortable.

Security and Service
Security
See no problems, levels seem high as standard.
Service
Ok, but car delivered with burnt clutch and dealer unhelpful. Sunroof had to be repaired twice. Mark on headlining after second return. No Cruise control as promised when buying.

Light surface rust under wheel well. Multichanger location should have been designed better, every time you remove the carpet to get the spare the unit gets shaken around.
