Toyota Avensis Tourer (2009 - 2015) 1.8 V-matic TR 5d Owner Review

Excellent family car. Spacious, safe, reliable (petrol v-matic engine), very economical for the size. I've owned this car (which I bought used) for nearly 4 years, and the only problem I've had is with binding rear brakes, fixed by changing the rear calipers for re-conditioned ones. The car has no turbo, no timing belt (it's a timing chain), and being a petrol misses out all the emissions-related sources of potential unreliability (DPF, EGR etc). It's fine to drive although not exciting, but enjoyable enough most of the time. With the 17" wheels the ride is ok if a little on the firm side, and it doesn't like broken surfaces much - fitting 16" wheels may be an idea if comfort/refinement is a priority. In terms of meeting the needs of a family of 4-5 at very reasonable cost, and with very little hassle, I'd be very happy to recommend a used petrol Avensis.
