Toyota Aygo X 1.0 VVT-i Edge 5dr Auto Owner Review

In their own words
Purchase experience: We (my wife and I) bought the car from Luton Toyota. It replaced a 3 year old Toyota Yaris Hybrid that we had also got from the same dealer. We bought the car on PCP and the experience was straight forward and hassle free. Ballal, the sales manager gave us the the option to test drive both the manual and automatic versions and we chose automatic as we mostly drive in urban settings. We were advised that there will be a 3-month waiting, but the car was delivered around 1 month 2 weeks later. We had to request a change to the service order as we noticed that we almost ordered a manual car instead of automatic. So, please do check T&Cs carefully.
Positives
1. Reliability: The car has been fault free. Everything works and it has been totally reliable despite some heavy driving... 11,000 miles in 11 months.
2. Fuel efficiency: With some careful driving, we have achieved 60 mpg during these 11 months. That is more than what the car advertises WLTP of 53 - 58 MPG. This comes at a cost though - we usually do not exceed 60 mph on motorway and try to hypermile
3. Interior: Apple play and android auto works great. We are so glad that Toyota adopted it finally. The central display is a great feature and demonstrates all the info with a touch screen display. Such a great improvement over previous clunky toyota interfaces.
4. Parking: Very easy to park. The rear view camera is great. The car's design also enables it to fit into tight parking spaces. Breeze to do a parallel parking
5. Wear and tear: Very durable and less wear and tear. After 11,000 miles, the tires still have 5mm tread and after the first service, everything was ok
6. Service costs: If you are on a service plan, service costs are low. The first service took 1 hour and I was given three options by Toyota - wait, take a courtesy car or pick up and drop. After first service, 10 year warranty is activated.
7. My Toyota app: The toyota app is great. It gives you a driving score and helps to make you a better driver. Tells you about fuel status, driving history and maintenance. I have seen comments that some readers think it spies on you. You can switch it off if you want to.
8. Safety feature: The car has automatic braking, lane centring and lane warning. The steering can auto-correct itself. We do agree that it can be over sensitive at times.
Negatives:
1. Noise: This is easily the roughest and noisiest Toyota we have ever driven. On uphill slopes and motorway, the engine has to rev harder and that makes it very noisy. To reduce costs, Toyota probably skimped on noise reduction stuff and it shows. It is impossible to hear radio or music properly at motorway speed. There is also an occasional funny ticking sound from the dashboard, we have never figured out what causes it.
2. Space at the rear: Horrendous. We have not had happy passengers at the back because getting it and out is an issue. There is hardly any leg space if you are taller.
3. Steering: With the safety features like lane centring and lane warning, they can be over sensitive and the steering does a feedback like a PS5 or Xbox360 steering. It can be annoying and I do drive now with them switched off.
Summary:
If you want a reliable, easy to own and economical car with only one or two passengers majority of the time, we will strongly recommend it.
