Toyota Aygo X 1.0 VVT-i Edge 5dr Owner Review

In their own words
Reality Check. I had a great Toyota 18 years ago so I thought I'd try one again. But I was wrong to do so. Toyota seam to be living off a past reputation for reliability but the reality now is very different. This brand new car doesn't always start first time. It's been with the dealer for a week but they couldn't find a fault. It's now back with me and the fault is still there. It will struggle to start twice a week like a 25 year old Fiat Uno. Sometimes it takes three go's until the engine starts.
The first thing you will read when you look at official online reviews about this car is how good the build quality is. Yet I see none of that and I'd go as far as saying that it's the worst built car I've ever owned. I've owned a lot of new cars on PCP over the last 10 years and this definitely has the worst build quality of them all. The plastic at the bottom of the driver door came off within hours of ownership. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced it yet it still keeps coming off. The door trims are loose already as are the exterior plastic mouldings.
On top of that there is a burning clutch smell every time I drive it and I've never been a heavy footed driver nor a half clutch down driver nor a boy racer. The only way to prevent the smell is to drive off so slowly that you nearly stall it. Remember, this is a new car with less than 1000 miles on the clock. Oh and add to that a disgraceful 37 mpg no matter how efficiently you try to drive it. A far cry from the 60mpg Toyota claim. I feel it's important that people read this review as Toyota charge very premium prices these days and with servicing costs more or less the same as BMW. Honestly, this is the worst new car I've ever bought and I'll never touch a Toyota again.
