  • Aygo X should deliver low fuel and tax bills
  • CO2 and MPG figures are better than rivals
  • Expensive to buy, finance a little more competitive

What are the running costs?

Unsurprisingly, the Aygo X is a cheap-enough car to run on fuel and tax, and finance costs are competitive with rival models despite a relatively high cash price. Toyota regularly runs finance deals, so keep an eye on our Deal Watch page to see whether the Aygo X attracts any such offers.

As it’s a city car, it’s no surprise to see that the Aygo X has low CO2 emissions, and they compare very well with rival offerings from Hyundai, Kia and Suzuki. For company users, this also means that it finds itself in a lower benefit-in-kind bracket than the i10 and Picanto, and well as the more SUV-focused Ignis. Fuel consumption is excellent, with gentle driving resulting in you easily being able to match the 60.1mpg official WLTP figure.

Servicing and warranty

All Aygo X models come with a three-year warranty, but this will be extended to as much as 10 years or 100,000 miles just as long as you service your car at a Toyota dealer, using the company’s parts. Aside from that there’s a 12-year, unlimited mileage corrosion warranty, along with a three-year rust and paint warranty.

Toyota also offers fixed-price service plans that can be paid ahead of time or in monthly instalments, so you can plan your costs.

Reliability

  • Toyota has an excellent reliability record
  • Engines have proven to be trouble free so far
  • Warranty support for up to 10 years

The old Aygo had a good reputation for reliability, which is a positive reflection of the relationship it had with Peugeot-Citroen at the time, as it shared many parts with the 108 and C1 models. This time around the Aygo X is all Toyota’s work and relies heavily of technology shared with the larger Yaris and Yaris Cross models.

That means you get a tried and tested range of engines and transmissions and all mechanical parts have been trouble free, in line with previous generation models. As mentioned above, Toyota includes a three-year warranty to begin with, and owners can extend this to as much as 10 years or 100,000 miles if they service their car at a Toyota dealer. Although that doesn’t affect the car’s reliability it reflects Toyota’s confidence in the Aygo X and should give potential owners piece of mind.
