Toyota Carina 'E' Hatchback 1992-

In their own words

What if everyone drove a 90s Toyota? We'd all be financially better off! Values of these cars are low, so if you can find one without mentions of a rusted underbody in previous MoTs, it'll provide you with reliable service for years to come. I changed the cambelt when I got mine, and give it a yearly full service. I also, importantly, wash the underside after winter, to ensure it stays free of structural rust. In return, my Carina provides exceptional reliability, and good fuel economy, on every trip. I hope that I will never not have this car in my life!

How reliable do you find the car?

At 30 years old, and probably still on it's original clutch, it is incredibly reliable. The immobiliser has caused some minor niggles, but the car itself is superb.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

I can't lie, it isn't a thrilling or rapid drive. What it provides is a decent ride, good fuel economy (for its age), good levels of legroom and boot space, and the ability to always get from A to B with no issue.
