Summary
What does this car say about you?
I crave excitement over practicality. Also - these days - that I'm probably in my 20s.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Men thought it was pretty cool, although some commented on how old and thirsty it was. Women frequently seemed almost intimidated by it. Anyone with a faintly maternal instinct would worry about me when they saw it!
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes, absolutely. I'd look for one in better condition this time, and preferably an ST so it's a bit less thirsty, but I loved this car and I'd happily drive another one of its kind.
What are you likely to buy next?
I may not be buying for some time because I'm moving to inner London. However, beyond that I'm considering a Mazda RX-8, another Celica (94-99 or 99-06 versions), a BMW 3 series or even an 8 series if I can stretch to it.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Didn't buy from a dealer
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£400
When did you buy the car?
November 2012
Did you get a good deal and why?
It had plenty wrong with it to justify the price, including a windscreen crack, but I wanted to buy it anyway. Ultimately it was a temporary purchase and it ran well until it failed its MOT the following year.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I'd wanted one since I was a child, when my dad had one as a company car. I loved the looks and as soon as I bought it, I started to love driving it as well.
What was the dealer like?
He was a relative of the previous owner and obviously wanted to get rid of the car - it appeared that the windscreen crack had spooked some potential buyers.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Fantastic - quick and responsive, even with such an old engine. Smooth and effortless on long journeys, and while not a town car really, it coped well with stopping and starting. The 2.0 engine's acceleration helped.
What's it like to park?
A little intimidating at first since the nose was so long, but you soon get used to it. It's not too wide, so fits in most places.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Yes, lots. I don't own the car anymore but it had several bodywork marks, slow leaks in two tyres and a broken radio. I found out later that it also had worn brakes. However, it was always a fine machine to drive and nothing ever went wrong with the engine.
What's most practical about your car?
Good storage space for such a sleek car - plenty of boot space, a roomy glove box and a storage box behind the handbrake.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Cream leather seats. I was glad that the original owner had paid the extra for them, since I'd always wanted a car that had them. They were extremely comfortable and looked the part.
