Toyota Corolla Hatchback 1.3 GL 3d (1989/G) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Bought for £330 in August 2002
Costs
Not the cheapest for parts, but fairly available in scrap-yards until recently
-
On the road
Driving
The most road feedback of any road car I have been in (makes me wonder if a previous owner uprated the suspension, as there were also alloy wheels)
Performance
Great performance from the 1.3 12v engine
-
Living with it
Reliability
I once put £12 of diesel in, then realised my mistake and diluted with £25 of Unleaded. Was able to drive from Birmingham to Glasgow like that and only cost me £4 to replace the fuel filter after that (luckily this model does not have catalytic converter)
Image
It's a classic now - I think the front looks much better than on the new Toyota
Comfort
Average, but you could not sleep in those seats
-
Security and Service
Security
I left the keys in the driver's door over-night and most of the next day and nobody took it! (Parked on the street as well)

Problems and Ownership

Engine
Would mis-fire for first couple of minutes in damp weather, due I think to a faulty thermostat
