Advanced VVTi (Variable Valve Timing Intelligent) engines are willing and offer high torque across the rev range. Indirect injection diesel is slow and a bit noisy, but okay at speed. 1.6VVTi is fine for just about everyone. Automatics are a bit jerky and are best avoided.
Smooth, safe, simple to drive. Lively, smooth, safe responses, steering is more precise than older Corollas. Not especially inspiring, but owners know this and are happy that it’s what they want.
