How much space is there?

Providing you don’t require more than two seats, the Toyota GR Supra can genuinely be used everyday. Thanks to that dramatic ‘double-bubble’ roofline, there’s plenty of head- and legroom, as well as space to stretch your elbows. Access can be a little tricky, given how low it is, and for a car that’s clearly designed as a sports tourer rather than an all-out sports car, it could do with a few more cubbyholes and larger door bins – but we’re probably picking fault.

It’s worth emphasising that there are no rear seats at all in a GR Supra. This is strictly a two-seater in line with its sporting remit.

Boot space and storage

The Supra’s 290-litre boot delivers ample room for a couple of reasonably-sized bags. It’s certainly enough for a week’s shopping or several squashy bags if you’re going on holiday. One criticism of the luggage area is that there’s not a great deal stopping smaller items sliding forward, and under the front seats, if you brake hard.

The boot is a decent shape and size with a large opening, as demonstrated by the picture below. It is not hard to lift baggage in and out, and because this isn’t a mid-engined vehicle (like the Porsche 718 Cayman or Alpine A110 rivals), the conventional rear boot is uncompromised. There is, however, no front luggage compartment – sometimes called a ‘frunk’, or ‘front trunk’ – as a result.

Is it easy to park?

The Supra isn’t an especially long vehicle at a whisker under 4.4 metres, but because you sit low down in a sporting driving position, it can feel a daunting vehicle to park until you get used to its proportions.

Fortunately, even the most basic 2.0-litre GR Supra comes with a reversing camera as standard, eliminating blindspots and helping nervous parkers manoeuvre the coupe without fear.

Although it hasn’t been tested by European safety regulators Euro NCAP, the Toyota GR Supra comes with a wide range of standard safety features as standard. It is reassuring that its BMW Z4 stablemate was awarded the top five-star safety ranking.

Under the Toyota Supra Safety+ package, each car gets:

• Pre-Collision System (capable of automatically braking the car should it detect that an accident is imminent)
• Adaptive cruise control
• Lane departure alert with steering assist
• Automatic high beam
• Road sign assist
• eCall (connects to the an emergency call centre in the event of an accident or other potentially dangerous situation)
• Blindspot monitor
