Pros & cons

PROS

Well equipped as standard, unstoppable off-road, superb quality cabin, good body control in bends

CONS

Noisy engine, vague steering, feels heavy and cumbersome compared to other 4x4s, extra seats don't fold away

Overview

Not to be mistaken with the regular Land Cruiser, the Land Cruiser V8 replaces the Amazon as Toyota’s top off-roader. A seven-seater with an imposing bulk, it compares with the very biggest in the class, the Range Rover, Mercedes GL and Audi Q7. As you’d expect from Toyota, it’s incredibly well built and comes generously equipped as standard – all models getting satellite navigation, Bluetooth and leather upholstery as standard.

New prices are pretty steep for a Toyota, but competitive with similar luxury 4x4 vehicles. It’s superb off road with the ability to tackle the toughest terrain, however, the Land Cruiser V8 isn’t as good on road as alternatives and feels as heavy and lumbering as its size suggests.
