Toyota Land Cruiser V8 Station Wagon (2008-2011) boot space, practicality and safety
There’s no official crash rating, but it gives the impression it would perform well in a collision. The array of safety equipment is reassuring and includes a record-breaking (at the time) 14 airbags including front knee airbags and curtain shield airbags along the entire length of the cabin. There’s also a pre-crash safety system which detects an emergency braking or spin scenario and tensions the front seatbelts in anticipation of an accident, pulling the front occupants into the safest position.
Thanks to seven seats as standard, the big Toyota is ideal for larger families. However, with all the rear seats in place, boot space is cut to just 259 litres – less than a Ford Fiesta. But what is more of an issue is the way the seats fold away – or don’t as the case is. Rather than sliding away to create a flat floor like most 4x4s, the seats in the Land Cruiser V8 flip up against the sides of the boot, eating into precious carrying room and making the boot narrow.
At least the seats, although heavy-looking, are on gas-assisted struts which makes them easy to pull into place or stow away.
