Toyota MR2 Sports 2d (1989/F) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Older models are getting cheaper now but beware of modified versions, boy racers buy these as they are very cheap and very quick. Fairly easy to come by good examples.
Costs
If driven correctly you can average 35mpg. Average insurance group for car of it's design and power, Toyota servicing on these is extortion!

On the road
Driving
Excellent visibility, the feel of this car inspires confidence. Very responsive engine and brakes - a joy to drive!
Performance
With over 120Bhp on tap in a car that weighs less than 1 tonne, this car can certainly move. Mid-engined rear wheel drive offers almost perfect weight balance. Rear wheel drive can be a little tricky on wet/greasy roads. keep over 3500rpm for max power.

Living with it
Reliability
Japanese reliability, Always starts on the coldest of mornings.
Image
Getting dated now, the old wedge shaped sports car is not as popular as it used to be, Regarded as a modern classic in some circles.
Comfort
Very comfortable inside - can be a little cramped if you are a larger/taller person but that's to be expected with a 2 seater car.
-
Security and Service
Security
Very easy to break into without damaging locks (frameless windows and soft rubber gaskets!) Alarm essential!
Service
Self-servicing is tricky because of engine location. Garage servicing can be expensive!
