Toyota MR2 T Bar Sports 2d (1987/D) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Fuel consumption not that bad for a sports car with an average of 30mpg around town, costs of servicing can be horrendous with very expensive parts!
Costs
As I said above, if you use Toyota main dealers for servicing and parts, beware. One service I had threw up a few problems with the car and cost me nearly £1000! Scarey but true!

On the road
Driving
Excellent fun to drive, brilliant at cornering and far better composure on the road than the MK2.
Performance
Pretty damn good for a 1.6 litre engine, the engine is as sweet as a nut at high revs, if you keep the car in 3rd and accelerate up to 50 miles an hour you can noticably hear the engine note change as the car propels you up to 80 miles an hour!

Living with it
Reliability
In the five years of ownership the car never failed to start once, the engine is pretty indestructable with usual Toyota reliability.
Image
Probably fairly dated and angular in many people's eyes, but that adds to its character which is far greater than the MK2!
Comfort
The seats are very comfortable with all the usual supports, not many toys to play with due to age of car, stereo etc. but who needs them when your bombing around in this car?

Security and Service
Security
Non-standard immobiliser fitted, car was never tampered with, probably not seen as desirable enough.
Service
Generally the servicing was very good with all faults fixed first time, but costs at times were pretty expensive so ended up going to independent garage instead.
