Toyota MR2 GT Sports 2d (1993/K) Owner Review

Economy
Value
I paid £4200 for a 1994 'L' with 45000 miles fully converted into MPH and a grade 4 (5 being the highest). A baby Ferrari at hot hatch prices!
Costs
Not bad of petrol, but it isn't an economy car. Thrashing it will see no more than 20 mpg. Average driving will see around 26 mpg. Motorway will get 30-32 mph not bad for car. Servicing can be expensive if you go to Toyota. Specialist will do a better job

On the road
Driving
Mines a GTS import (Rev 3 turbo). Feels nice and smooth. It feels like you are sat on the floor so 60 feels like 90! The driving position is spot on and the sound of the turbo whistle behind your left ear is ace!
Performance
0-60 of 5.3 and a top end 155+ Not bad at all.

Living with it
Reliability
Starts every time with no fuss just a little burble from the turbo. Nothing gone wrong not even a bulb! The Japs relay out did them selves when they engineered this car!
Image
People call it a hair dressers car or a poor man's Ferrari. Its too powerful for a hair dresser they are more MX-5 people. As for a Ferrari that a compliment it fast as hell like a Ferrari, but with none of the high running costs.
Comfort
Sat nice and low. Steering wheel is spot on and the pedals are just far enough apart. Can be noisy with the turbo, but its more a treat rather than a burden.

Security and Service
Security
Jap cars have no security what so ever. They have central locking and thats your lot! Cat 1 recommended and if possible a tracker for insurance.
Service
Good but expensive.
