What does this car say about you?

    Mid-life crisis and I can't afford a Boxster.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They love it (what's not to love? It's such a pretty car). My wife likes it, although she does prefer her Copen. I don't really care what the neighbour thinks - she drives a Jazz so she's hardly in a position to make qualified comments.

Would you buy this car again and why?

If only . . . there aren't many cars like this any more, unless you join the masses and buy an MX5.

What are you likely to buy next?

Looking at a Skoda Yeti for commuting. But I'd never sell the MR2. I'll keep it for best and drive it on summer days - it'll be a classic one day.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £3,400

When did you buy the car?

    November 2015

Did you get a good deal and why?

Bought at auction during the winter (the trade generally don't buy convertibles at this time of year so I got a real bargain).

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Always wanted one and this was such a bargain.

    What was the dealer like?

British Car Auctions (Blackbushe) were very helpful.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Great fun. Not overly fast but it's light and agile, and very easy to drive.

    What's it like to park?

No problem as it's fairly small. The hardtop limits visibility a bit when reversing.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing - although I haven't had it long. The previous owner followed the service schedule meticulously (which I will continue). If it's regularly serviced it shouldn't present me with many surprises (well it is a Toyota after all).

What's most practical about your car?

You don't buy an MR2 for practicality. It gets me from A to B in style and is fun to drive. I suppose the only practicality is that it's a satisfactory and reliable mode of transport.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Optional hardtop - gives you the best of both worlds.
