Toyota RAV4 Estate (2013-2019) running costs and reliability
Miles per pound (mpp)
Fuel economy
The lowest Toyota RAV4 running costs belong to the two-wheel drive version. This has the lowest CO2 emissions yet seen on a RAV4, at 127g/km, which means free road tax for the first year on the road and £100 per year thereafter.
There’s a greater scope in price for the RAV4 line-up as a whole, which starts lower and ranges to a higher price than before. Residual values, already fairly strong, are expected to improve further for the latest-generation car.
Lowest insurance costs belong to the 2WD Active derivative in Group 26, while 4WD 2.2-litre versions sit in the highest insurance bracket in Group 29.
Fuel consumption ranges from 39mpg for the 2.0-litre petrol CVT version to 57mpg for the 2WD 2.0-litre diesel.
Toyota RAV4 emissions have been improved for this generation, thanks in part to superior aerodynamics meaning reduced drag, along with improvements in engine performance. The two-wheel drive 2.0-litre diesel has the lowest Toyota RAV4 emissions yet at 127g/km, a creditable figure for a large car.
Although hybrid cars are on offer elsewhere in the Toyota range, there are currently no plans for a hybrid-powered RAV4.
Toyota RAV4 reliability should be very strong. Toyota has a proactive attitude to safety and if any faults do occur they’re likely to be picked up on and dealt with quickly.
