Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) 1.0 16v VVT-i GS 3d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
Spirited little engine capable of keeping up with normal traffic. Fine for most driving like country roads/town/city. If you do motorway or fast/hilly road driving, get the 1.3. Models like the GS do not have air conditioning or CD player. I fitted a CD player from another Yaris easily but if you want aircon you need a higher spec model. If I get another car it will be a mk1 Yaris 1.3 with air con and 5 doors. This little 1.0 has made me a mk1 Yaris fan for life - it was bought as a stop-gap but I've fallen in love with it. Not many cars pushing 18 years old and 143,000 miles will be this faultless! The bodywork edges don't even have rust spots like other cars this age and younger. Self-servicing is easy too. An unassuming little runabout that quietly does it's job and puts more modern 'flashy but troublesome' cars to shame!
How reliable do you find the car?
17 years old, 142,000 miles and drives like half the mileage and half the age. This is a 1.0 petrol with diesel engine mileage on it and it doesn't bat an eyelid or complain once! They are capable of 200k. Always starts, no nasty rattles or noises, been completely reliable come heavy frost or hot sun. Doesn't drink oil or coolant for fun either. Everything electrical works too. Get one that's had regular oil changes and you really can't go wrong!Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Despite the smallest engine, it keeps up with traffic on the open A and B roads. Best suited for city/town centre driving as very nippy. Large enough for two small children in car seats in the back. Even as a three door it's quite easy to access the back - especially if they're old enough to climb in themselves and sit down.About their car
