Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) 1.0 16v VVT-i GS 3d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I'll get the negatives out the way first: The clutch (which is the original) is hard to get the hang of. The biting point makes its own mind up where it wants to be every time I start the car. It's s thorn in my side more than anything though. Not a major issue though. It's loud on the motorway. By the time you're going 65mph you'll be coming up to 4000rpm (on the 1L anyway). And finally, the windscreen wiper blades seem to fall apart all the time. It's the only thing its ever failed its MOT on. Thats kind of a positive really seen as though its lived outside for 20 years. It's not a problem I just always carry spares.
Other than that, It's great. I cant fault it. I bought it for £850 and it just goes. If someone told me to drive to southern France tomorrow to pick up a loaf of bread I know for a fact it would make it there and back with no issue, even if I ragged it around. And I'm sure no one is buying a mk1 Yaris for its looks. So what more would you want?
For better or worse, it does just seem to make its own mind up if it wants to play ball on a day to day basis. Sometimes smooth as butter and pulls off the line really well (The VVT kicks in around 2000rpm). Then other days I'll see a butterfly overtake me. But it ALWAYS goes. Thats all that matters.
My Yaris has been serviced every year, so I can only say that as long as yours has had the same treatment ittl hopefully go another 20 years
