What is miles per pound?

Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 40 - 67 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Cheap to buy, holds its value reasonably well, sips fuel (especially the D-4D) and sits in low insurance brackets. Servicing is competitive and parts are reasonably priced.

Yaris performs remarkably well on the eco front. With an average of 131 g/km CO2 across the range, its emissions are comparably low for a super mini hatchback. Eco-conscious buyers should consider the 1.0-litre petrol, which is one of the greenest models in the range. The range is very frugal, averaging 52 mpg.

Toyotas are generally faultless to the delight of most owners. Some problems reported with soft paint and stone chips, but that’s all. But a good reputation is no reason to be careless when buying – check any car thoroughly and take a test drive – sometimes even Toyota get it wrong.
