Citroen Berlingo dimensions (2008-on)
Full information on the second-generation of the Citroen Berlingo, including interior and exterior dimensions, payload and other practical details.
The second-generation Berlingo is longer and wider than its predecessor and is available in two different versions, just like its sister vehicle the Peugeot Partner. The standard version, known as the L1, is 4,380mm long while the L2 is just under 25cm longer at 4,628mm.
There is only a negligible difference between the height of the L1 and L2, with the latter being 6mm taller, and the two versions are based on the same wheelbase so it is just a case of choosing which length of body you want. Both are the same width, too, with a maximum span of 2,112mm.
Citroen Berlingo size | L1 | L2 |
Exterior length (mm) | 4,380 | 4,628 |
Exterior height (mm) | 1,828 | 1,834 |
Exterior width with mirrors (mm) | 2,112 | 2,112 |
Exterior width mirrors folded (mm) | 1,857 | 1,857 |
Citroen Berlingo interior load area dimensions and capacity
Inside, the shorter model offers a total load volume of 3.3 cubic metres while the longer L2 model has 3.7 cubic metres of space.
The width between the wheelarches is 1,229mm, while the load bay length is 1,800mm in the L1 and 2,050mm in the L2.
Citroen Berlingo internal size | L1 | L2 |
Maximum load length (mm) | 1,800 | 2,050 |
Maximum load height (mm) | 1,250 | 1,250 |
Maximum load width (mm) | 1,620 | 1,620 |
Width between wheelarches (mm) | 1,230 | 1,229 |
Maximum load volume (cu m) | 3.3-3.7 | 3.7-4.1 |
The Extenso passenger seat brings further flexibility and an extra bit of space. While the middle part of this double passenger seat is only suitable for occasional use by a passenger, there is a hidden storage space beneath it. The outer part, when not in use, can collapse to extend the load capacity to take longer narrow objects.
This increases the load area of the L1 van to 3.7 cubic metres, while the L2 van increases to an impressive 4.1 cubic metres.
A nearside side loading door is standard on all but entry-level models, and an offside sliding side door is available as an option.
Payload rating varies from around 552kg to just over 850kg, depending on the version you go for. Perhaps unsurprisingly the electric model is the one that can carry the least. It can only take 552kg if you go for the L2 model, but this increases to 636kg if you stick with the slightly smaller L1 model.
At the other end of the scale, the BlueHDi 100 engine is the version that will offer the most in the way of carrying ability, with an official payload of 856kg if you go for the basic ‘X’ trim.
If you want to pop a towbar on your Berlingo then the different versions can legally tow an unbraked trailer weighing between 640kg and 740kg, while braked trailer allowances range from 1100kg to 1250kg.
