Fiat E-Ducato electric van dimensions and specs (2021)
Fiat E-Ducato dimensions and specs
This page covers the outside and inside dimensions of the Fiat E-Ducato electric van, plus payload and towing capacity information.
If you’re after driving impressions, standard equipment and running cost details, check out our main Fiat E-Ducato review page.
The E-Ducato is relatively unusual among large electric vans, as it comes in a considerable number of variants, rather than just one or two.
Not only does the panel van come in three lengths and three heights, there are also four lengths of chassis cab and a passenger carrying variant (basically a minibus).
All versions of the van come with a single sliding side loading door as standard, on the passenger side, plus a full steel bulkhead that’s fixed in position. You also get LED lights in the cargo area and load-lashing anchor points.
Fiat E-Ducato panel van dimensions
Fiat labels the E-Ducato’s length M, L and XL, while the different heights are represented by H1, H2 and H3.
Fiat E-Ducato panel van length/width/height:
- Fiat E-Ducato length (M/L/XL): 5,413/5,998/6,363mm
- Fiat E-Ducato width: 2,050mm
- Fiat E-Ducato height 3,500kg GVW (H1/H2/H3): 2,309/2,579/2,814mm
- Fiat E-Ducato height 4,250kg GVW (H1/H2/H3): 2,329/2,599/2,834mm
As you can see, this van comes in two different gross vehicle weights (GVW – the total legally allowed weight of the van and everything on board).
This and the size of the battery pack has a slight impact on vehicle height; the figures above are for the smaller, lighter 47kWh battery – E-Ducatos with the bigger, heavier 79kWh battery are 10mm lower.
The available bodysize combinations for the E-Ducato are: MH1, MH2, LH2, LH3, XLH2 and XLH3. M models have a 3,450mm wheelbase, L and XL a 4,035mm wheelbase.
The passenger version only comes in the MH2 body size, with the same exterior dimensions as the 4,250kg panel van of that specification. Six-seat and nine-seat models are available.
Fiat E-Ducato panel van load area dimensions:
- Fiat E-Ducato maximum load length (M/L/XL): 3,120/3,705/4,070mm
- Fiat E-Ducato maximum load width: 1,870mm
- Fiat E-Ducato width between wheel arches: 1,422mm
- Fiat E-Ducato maximum load height (H1/H2/H3): 1,662/1,932/2,172mm
Fiat E-Ducato panel van load volume:
- MH1: 10.0 cubic metres
- MH2: 11.5 cubic metres
- LH2: 13.0 cubic metres
- LH3: 15.0 cubic metres
- XLH2: 15.0 cubic metres
- XLH3: 17.0 cubic metres
Fiat E-Ducato panel van door opening dimensions:
- Rear door opening width: 1,562mm
- Rear door opening height (H1/H2/H3): 1,520/1,790/2,030mm
- Side door opening width: 1,250mm
- Side door opening height (H1/H2/H3): 1,485/1,755/1,755mm
Fiat E-Ducato loading threshold / step-in height at rear:
- At 3,500kg GVW (47kWh/79kWh): 590/580mm
- At 4,250kg GVW (47kWh/79kWh): 610/600mm
Fiat E-Ducato chassis cab dimensions
All versions of the E-Ducato chassis cab have the same H1 height rating – though actual height will vary with the conversion or body mounted on the back.
The four lengths available are labelled M, ML, L and XL, and are slightly different to those of the panel van even though they have similar labels.
Fiat E-Ducato chassis cab length/width/height:
- Fiat E-Ducato chassis cab length (M/ML/L/XL): 5,358/5,708/5,943/6,308mm
- Fiat E-Ducato chassis cab width: 2,050mm
- Fiat E-Ducato chassis cab height: 2,254mm
M models have a 3,450mm wheelbase and ML a 3,800mm wheelbase; L and XL both have a 4,035mm wheelbase.
There are no load area dimensions available for these, unsurprisingly, but Fiat does specify the maximum conversion length that can occupy the space behind the cab:
- Fiat E-Ducato chassis cab conversion length (M/ML/L/XL): 4,130/4,690/5,045/5,045mm
Fiat sells the E-Ducato in two gross vehicle weights (GVW) – 3,500kg and 4,250kg – and with a choice of two battery pack sizes.
Getting the right combination of these options is critical to making sure you have enough payload capacity, but compared with other large electric vans, the E-Ducato is a great choice if you’ve got heavy loads to shift.
Fiat E-Ducato payload capacity
Both GVWs are available with both battery sizes – and under certain conditions, both are legal to drive on a standard UK driving licence (but only because the E-Ducato is an electric van).
As a result, the E-Ducato has a whopping 1,885kg maximum payload for the smallest 4,250kg panel van with the smallest battery pack – a higher payload than any other large electric van currently on sale.
Minimum panel van payload is 690kg for the 3,500kg model with the bigger battery and the largest bodywork, with every model in between rated differently, depending on size, trim level and fitted equipment.
Fiat doesn’t give a maximum payload rating for the E-Ducato chassis cab models, instead giving a maximum front axle weight of 2,100kg and a maximum rear axle weight of 2,400kg.
Fiat E-Ducato towing capacity
Fiat does not quote any towing capacity at all for the Fiat E-Ducato. This is not unusual for an electric van, as towing has a substantial impact on driving range.
