Ford Fiesta Van dimensions (2020)
The Ford Fiesta Van is a car-derived van in the purest possible sense – meaning that it is literally a Ford Fiesta car with the rear seats removed and the rear side windows blanked-off, plus a high-quality load-floor and fixed bulkhead installed.
Compared with conventional small vans, practicality is limited. But the Fiesta Van is still a safer, more functional way to carry goods or equipment than an ordinary small car with the rear seats folded down.
On this page you’ll find full dimensions, load area and payload capacity details for the Fiesta Van on sale since 2018. For info on driving impressions, comfort and standard equipment see our main Ford Fiesta Van review page.
The Ford Fiesta Van comes in two trim levels but just one physical size – which exactly matches that of the Fiesta car. As of late 2020, the only 'retail' version is the Fiesta Sport Van; the standard model is now exclusively available to fleets.
Regardless, with a load area limited to the space left after the seats have been removed, the Fiesta Van is not intended as a super-practical goods-hauling machine. Rather, this is a stylish, compact commercial vehicle that’s easy to drive, comfortable and still safe should you need to cram half a tonne of gear in the back.
A full steel bulkhead separates the load area from the front seats, the top section finished in mesh so you can still see out of the glass rear window. A half-height bulkhead is available as an option, if required.
A high quality load floor provides sound insulation and a grippy surface to stop stuff sliding about, and there are four load lashing points for particularly heavy items.
What are the Ford Fiesta Van’s exterior dimensions?
These are the outside dimensions for the standard Fiesta Van (note that it is slightly shorter and slightly taller than the Fiesta Sport Van):
- Fiesta Van length: 4,040mm
- Fiesta Van height: 1,476mm
- Fiesta Van width including door mirrors: 1,941mm
- Fiesta Van width with door mirrors folded: 1,783mm
What are the Ford Fiesta Sport Van’s exterior dimensions?
The Fiesta Sport Van has different bumpers and sports suspension, making it 25mm longer and 10mm lower than the regular versions. These are the full dimensions:
- Fiesta Sport Van length: 4,065mm
- Fiesta Sport Van height: 1,466mm
- Fiesta Sport Van width including door mirrors: 1,941mm
- Fiesta Sport Van width with door mirrors folded: 1,783mm
What are the Ford Fiesta Van’s load area dimensions?
The Fiesta van does not have a large load area; a Ford Transit Courier van offers double the load volume yet actually costs substantially less.
However, it is still more practical than an ordinary Fiesta car with the rear seats folded down – as well as more resistant to damage and safer for the passengers.
These are full Fiesta Van and Fiesta Sport Van load area dimensions:
- Fiesta Van maximum load length at floor: 1,283mm
- Fiesta Van maximum load length at belt line: 1,104mm
- Fiesta Van maximum load height: 923mm
- Fiesta Van maximum load width: 1,281mm
- Fiesta Van width between wheelarches: 984mm
- Fiesta Van load volume: 0.96 cubic metres
Though the Fiesta Van has half the physical load space area of a Transit Courier (Ford’s smallest ‘proper’ van), its actual payload capacity may only be a few kilograms lower, depending on specification.
So if the items you need to transport aren’t bulky, you may find the Fiesta Van more suitable than you first thought.
What is the Ford Fiesta Van’s maximum payload?
Maximum payload varies with trim level and engine; official examples are as follows.
Ford Fiesta Van maximum payload:
- Ford Fiesta Van 1.1-litre Ti-VCT 85hp petrol payload: 528kg (discontinued)
- Ford Fiesta Van 1.0-litre EcoBoost 95hp turbo petrol payload: 531kg
- Ford Fiesta Van 1.5-litre TDCi 85hp turbodiesel payload: 530kg (discontinued)
Ford Fiesta Sport Van maximum payload:
- Ford Fiesta Sport Van 1.0-litre EcoBoost 125hp turbo petrol payload: 508kg
- Ford Fiesta Sport Van 1.0-litre EcoBoost 125hp mHEV turbo petrol payload: 515kg
- Ford Fiesta Sport Van 1.5-litre TDCi 120hp turbodiesel payload: 511kg (discontinued)
- Ford Fiesta Sport Van 1.5-litre TDCI 85hp turbodiesel payload: 518kg (discontinued)
You can see that the diesel models carry slightly more than the petrol models, which is not necessarily what you’d expect, given diesel engines are typically heavy.
However, Ford stopped selling diesel versions of the Fiesta Van and Fiesta Sport van in August 2020. The new 125hp mHEV model comes with mild hybrid technology for better mpg.
Also note that the Fiesta Sport Van, which comes with a greater amount of standard equipment, has a lower payload rating than the standard model.
For reference, some Ford Transit Courier models are able to carry up to 600kg payload, but others are limited to 534kg.
What is the Ford Fiesta Van’s towing capacity?
The Fiesta Van is not the most obvious tow vehicle, yet it is still officially capable to the following weight plate standards.
Ford Fiesta Van towing capacity:
- Ford Fiesta Van 1.1-litre Ti-VCT 85hp petrol towing capacity: 560kg unbraked, 900kg braked (discontinued)
- Ford Fiesta Van 1.0-litre EcoBoost 95hp turbo petrol towing capacity: 580kg unbraked, 1,100kg braked
- Ford Fiesta Van 1.5-litre TDCi 85hp turbodiesel towing capacity: 590kg unbraked, 900kg braked (discontinued)
Ford Fiesta Sport Van towing capacity:
- Ford Fiesta Sport Van 1.0-litre EcoBoost 125hp turbo petrol towing capacity: 590kg unbraked, 1,100kg braked
- Ford Fiesta Sport Van 1.0-litre EcoBoost 125hp mHEV turbo petrol towing capacity: 580kg unbraked, 1,100kg braked
- Ford Fiesta Sport Van 1.5-litre TDCi 120hp turbodiesel towing capacity: 610kg unbraked, 1,100kg braked (discontinued)
- Ford Fiesta Sport Van 1.5-litre TDCi 85hp turbodiesel towing capacity: 595kg unbraked, 900kg braked (discontinued)
Note that the unbraked weight rating falls considerably short of the 750kg max available to most other light commercial vehicles, so if swapping trailers between the Fiesta Van and other LCVs, make sure you’re not exceeding the little Ford’s capabilities.
