Original Price

This is the new list price of the vehicle for the year it was new and includes VAT.

Buying

Discounts on new vans and pickups are possible but depends on make, type and availability. Make sure you shop around and compare deals based on like for like.

Dealer Price

This is the guide price that you’d expect to pay from a dealer. Main franchised dealer prices will be higher than independent dealers. The ‘Sticker’ price may well be higher so be prepared to negotiate. The price assumes that the vehicle is in good all-round condition being roadworthy and not requiring any work. The vehicle will also have a valid MOT and a full service history. Normally a dealer will also offer some form of warranty but these can differ widely so check before buying.

Dealer Part-Ex Price

This is the price that you’d expect to be offered by a dealer if you are trading your vehicle in against another. Part exchange prices can be fluid depending on the circumstance of each individual deal and the condition of the vehicle being traded in, so the figure shown here should be used as a guide only. For example, you may be offered a higher trade-in price if you are buying a new vehicle which is on ‘Run-Out’. This is where the dealer is eager to sell a new vehicle from a model range that is just being replaced. Dealers will often want to move stock to make room for newer ranges. They are in the business of moving ‘Metal’ so you could expect a better deal in these circumstances.

Private Seller Price

This is the guide price that you’d expect to pay from a private seller. Most sellers will expect you to haggle so the final ‘Deal’ price could be lower than the figures shown here. The seller may also have the vehicle priced higher than the guide price as they think that most people will try to negotiate a lower price. The price assumes that the vehicle is in good all-round condition being roadworthy and not requiring any work. The vehicle will also have a valid MOT. Vehicles requiring work, have an incomplete service record or are out of ‘MOT’ will be valued lower. Normally no warranties are offered with private sales so vehicles are generally purchased ‘As Seen’. From October 2014 VED (Road Tax) is not transferable between vehicles so you’ll have to get new tax on the vehicle before it can be used.
