Mercedes eVito dimensions (2020-on)
Want to know whether the load area of the Mercedes-Benz eVito electric van is the same size as the standard diesel Vito? Or how much payload it can carry? Then you’ve come to the right place, as we’ve got the full dimensions details right here.
More interested in finding out more about what this Mercedes electric van is like to drive, or what you get as standard equipment? Then check out our main Mercedes eVito review page.
The Mercedes-Benz eVito electric van comes in two body sizes: L2 and L3 – also known as Long and Extra-Long. There is no shorter L1 (Compact) version and, as with all Vitos of this generation, there is no high-roof option, either.
The conversion to electric drive replaces the regular diesel engine without causing any chances to the size of the van or the load area. All eVitos are front-wheel drive (FWD) and the electricity that powers them is stored in a trio of battery packs mounted under the load floor – hence load volume is unaffected. Payload is a slightly different matter, but more on that below.
All electric Vitos come with a sliding side door on either side of the van, plus centrally-split wing doors (also known as barn doors) at the rear that open up to 180 degrees as standard.
A full width bulkhead is fitted as standard, too, along with wooden flooring for the load area; full-height wood panelling is optional, and you also have to pay extra if you want LED lighting in the rear.
Mercedes-Benz eVito exterior dimensions
How big is the Mercedes eVito? The table below compares both versions available in the UK.
Mercedes-Benz eVito | L2 | L3 |
Exterior length (mm) | 5,140 | 5,370 |
Exterior height (mm) | 1,948 | 1,948 |
Exterior width inc. door mirrors (mm) | 2,249 | 2,249 |
Exterior width without door mirrors (mm) | 1,928 | 1,928 |
Wheelbase (mm) | 3,200 | 3,430 |
Front overhang (mm) | 895 | 895 |
Rear overhang (mm) | 1,045 | 1,045 |
Ground clearance (mm) | 116 | 116 |
Mercedes-Benz eVito load area dimensions
Will your stuff fit in the back on an electric Vito? Check out the full eVito load area dimensions in this table.
Mercedes-Benz eVito | L2 | L3 |
Maximum load length (mm) | 2,831 | 3,061 |
Maximum load height (mm) | 1,391 | 1,391 |
Maximum load width (mm) | 1,685 | 1,685 |
Width between wheelarches (mm) | 1,270 | 1,270 |
Read sill loading height (mm) | 558 | 558 |
Load volume (cubic metres) | 6.0 | 6.6 |
Note that the maximum loading length is measured at the floor, and includes 370mm space under the front seats. Minimum load length (to the top of the bulkhead partition) is quoted as 2,290mm for the L2 model and 2,520mm for the L3.
As Mercedes has upgraded the battery in the eVito, so the payload has reduced accordingly. The gross vehicle weight (GVW – the total legal driving weight of the van and everything inside) of both lengths is 3,200kg (3.2-tonnes), which goes some way towards compensating for the weight of the battery, but no model in the range is quite capable of carrying 1,000kg (1.0-tonne).
Mercedes-Benz eVito payload
The eVito L2 (Long) panel van is rated to carry a maximum payload of 882kg in entry-level Progressive specification, falling to 824kg when the extra equipment of the Premium trim level is added.
The eVito L3 (Extra-Long) panel van is only available in Progressive trim, and this comes with a maximum payload of 847.
It's worth bearing in mind that Mercedes quotes two payload figures - one with a driver and one without. It sets that driver weight at 75kg - a little under 12 stone.
Mercedes-Benz eVito towing capacity
Like many electric vans, the eVito is not rated to tow anything at all, and the maximum gross train weight (GTW) is 3,200kg – the same as the gross vehicle weight.
