Mitsubishi Shogun Sport dimensions (2019-on)
On this page you’ll find the info on the dimensions, load area, towing capacity and payload of the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport Commercial – a 4x4 van version of a passenger SUV.
For details of driving impressions and standard equipment, see our main review page by clicking here or on the tab above.
Being based on a passenger SUV, the Shogun Sport Commercial comes in a single body size only – and not only is the load area comparatively limited in size compared with a conventional van, it’s also a long way from the ground, more like a pickup.
This will be no real surprise once you learn that the Shogun Sport is based on the same platform as the Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck, albeit with different rear suspension.
What’s the load area like?
Turning the passenger car into a van means removing (and destroying) the rear seats, and replacing them with a dedicated load platform.
This is carpeted, rather than rubber lined (which at least smells nicer), and has a couple of unexpected intrusions – from the bolt holding the spare wheel and a panel in the floor near the rear side doors.
A steel bulkhead with mesh top section is standard, offering driver and passenger safety while retaining a view out of the rear window, which remains untinted glass.
The rear side windows are blacked glass, which can be replaced with steel plate at extra cost; the steel will be more secure, but means the Shogun Sport will stop looking so much like a car, which may be part of the appeal.
The rear side doors still open like the passenger version, and are still trimmed in the same way – which looks a little odd, but is better than a bare panel. Access though them is tight, but still handy.
The rear-most door is a hatchback.
Mitsubishi Shogun Sport exterior dimensions
The Commercial version of the Shogun Sport is, as you’d expect, exactly the same size as the standard model:
- Exterior length: 4,785mm
- Exterior width (excluding door mirrors): 1,815mm
- Exterior height: 1,805mm
It also has the following (identical) off-road specifications:
- Approach angle: 30.0 degrees
- Departure angle: 24.2 degrees
- Breakover angle: 23.1 degrees
- Wading depth: 700mm
Mitsubishi Shogun Sport load area dimensions
Unsurprisingly, the load area is quite a bit smaller than you’ll find in a van of similar footprint – but the loading length is longer than the L200 Crew Cab and Double Cab models, and of course the load space is securely enclosed compared with a pickup.
It’s also longer and taller inside than the Outlander Commercial, though this has more storage space under its load platform.
These are the main load area dimensions of the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport Commercial:
- Maximum loading length: 1,920mm
- Maximum load height: 1,040mm
- Width between the wheel arches: 1,000mm
- Load volume: 1,488 litres
Like most car-based commercial vehicles, the load volume is quoted in litres; in this instance, 1,488 litres works out at just under 1.5 cubic metres.
Not much to say here, as there’s only one payload rating to worry about: 605kg.
This is usefully more than an Outlander Commercial plug-in hybrid (510kg) but considerably less than the L200 pickup (at least 1,000kg or 1.0-tonnne) and any similarly sized purpose-built van you care to mention.
The Shogun Sport’s towing capability is much more impressive, coming in a 3,100kg (3.1 tonnes) with a braked trailer; a little less than the best pickups van manage (3,500kg or 3.5 tonnes), but not a bad effort at all.
The Mitsubishi comes with Trailer Sway Assist electronics as standard as well.
Unbraked towing capacity is 750kg.
