The Vauxhall Vivaro has developed a large and loyal following since it first hit in the market in 2001. In the summer, Vauxhall replaced the 13-year-old vehicle was replaced with the second generation, which delivers better loading attributes and lower running costs. To the delight of many Vivaro buyers, list price wasn’t compromised either, and this example is just £11,837.
In the cab
Because it’s only the ‘billy basic’ model, there isn’t a lot in terms of cabin features. There is a DAB radio, though, and steering mounted controls and a multifunction on-board computer. The only main criticism was that, while the side windows are low and offer good views, the same cannot be said for the windscreen, which is hindered by the raised dashboard.
Driveline
In terms of driving impressions, it’s pretty difficult to beat. It’s well refined and one of the quietest vans we’ve tested of this size, while the 6-speed manual transmission is extremely smooth. This particular examples employs the 89bhp (dCi 90) version, offering 260Nm of torque. It’s also very fuel efficient engine, achieving 43.5mpg on the combined cycle.
Loading Capabilities
The load volume has slightly improved to 5.4 cubic metres on the short wheelbase, low roof version and there is a payload of 1,041, which isn’t bad considering that this is the lighter, 2.7 tonne variant. The load area also contains a number of lashing points, a full bulkhead and a nearside side loading door.
