Images of the new Fiat pickup for 2016 have been leaked and show a unique and flamboyant design. The Fiat Professional pickup, which will be based on the 2015 Mitsubishi L200, is due to hit the market early to mid-2016.

The global demand for pickup trucks, especially in South America where Fiat is a top manufacturer, is growing and too big for a global manufacturer like Fiat to ignore. Plans for a pickup go back a decade, and there were talks of a shared platform with Fiat’s American sister brand, Ram Trucks.

However, after a change of heart Fiat officially announced it would be partnering with Mitsubishi in May 2014. The Mitsubishi L200 is a respected truck that has sold well over its four generations.

Both the new generation of the Mitsubishi L200 and the new Fiat pickup will be powered by the new, Euro-6 compliant 2.4-litre engine with a 6-speed transmission, which offers impressive fuel economy and low emissions. It will have a ground clearance of around 205mm and one of the largest load beds in its class.

Other pickups to hit the market soon are the 2016 Toyota Hilux, 2015 Ford Ranger, 2016 Renault pickup, 2016 Nissan Navara and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz Pickup.
