The focus for this week’s Parkers Lease Deal is pickups, and it’s gone to one of the smaller and less known products. The SsangYong Korando Sports may not be the most rugged or capable, but it more than meets the requirements for operators looking for a comfortable and affordable workhorse.
This particular deal from Alpha Contracts is for the SsangYong Korando Sports SX, and is priced from just £301.95 plus VAT a month. It’s a business contract hire arrangement, so is only available for VAT registered companies, and is over a term of 48 months.
In the cab
Derived from an SUV, the interior is slightly more stylish and comfortable than one would expect from a pickup. The SX is extremely well appointed and comes equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, tinted glass, air conditioning, leather covered steering wheel, remote central locking, Kenwood MP3 CD & RDS radio with a USB & auxiliary port and Bluetooth connectivity as well as speed sensitive power assisted steering.
Under the bonnet
SsangYong’s own 2-litre e-XDi diesel engine provides the power, and is fairly versatile and economical, returning up to 37.7 mpg on the combined cycle. This 2-litre Euro 5 engine produces maximum power of 153bhp and peak torque of 360Nm delivered between 1,500rpm and 2,800rpm providing ample performance both on and off road.
Load Area
Practically, however, is slightly compromised. The rear load deck provides just 2.04 cubic metres of load area (just enough to take a Euro pallet) and comes with load deck liner and anchor points. The optional rigid hard tops provide weather protection and security to the load area. Payloads were increased in 2015 to just over one tonne.
Summary
Unless you’re a very heavy duty pickup operator, the SsangYong Korando should meet your needs. It’s comfortable, boasts a lot of kit, the payload is now rated at one tonne and is covered by a five year limitless mileage warranty.
