Renault has a new selection of Business Contract Hire offers on its van range for September 2016, timed to coincide with the introduction of the new “66” number plate.
Business Contract Hire means you lease the vehicle over a fixed term – usually two or three years – and then give it back, rather than buying it outright or at the end of the payment term. All amounts below exclude the VAT.
Renault Trafic from £190 per month
Central to Renault’s van range is the Trafic, a medium van that competes against the likes of the Ford Transit Custom and Volkswagen Transporter. For the arrival of the 66 plate, Renault is offering eight versions of it on a “6+23” month contract hire basis, available on Business, Sport and Sport+ specification levels, and both short- and long-wheelbase variants.
The 6+23 term means you pay the equivalent of six months’ lease as an initial payment, then 23 monthly instalments for a total of rental period of two years. The mileage limit is 10,000 miles per year.
Prices start at £189.95 per month for a Trafic SL27 dCi 115 Business, a low-roof, short-wheelbase model with a 115hp turbodiesel engine. The initial payment on this model would be £1,139.70, making the total cost of the two-year contract hire £5,508.55. The basic outright purchase price is currently £18,975.

Renault Master from £220 per month
Moving up to the Renault Master large van (rival to the Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter), there are two regular versions on offer on a 6+35 month Business Contract Hire, plus several off-the-shelf conversions, including dropside, tipper and Luton versions.
As you may have figured out, 6+35 means an initial payment equivalent to six months’ rental is required, followed by 35 individual monthly payments, for a total contract hire lease of three years. Again, mileage is limited to 10,000 miles a year.
The starting price for the Master is £219.95 a month for the MM33 dCi 110 FWD Business model – that’s a medium-wheelbase, medium-roof height van with a 110hp turbodiesel engine driving the front wheels. Total rental price for the three-year period would be £9,017.95, including an initial rental of £1,319.70. Regular basic purchase price for this model is £24,220 at present.

Renault Kangoo van from £175 a month
Also available on a 6+35 contract hire deal is the Renault Kangoo small van. The ML19 dCi 75 Business model, for example, is £174.95 a month in standard size with a 75hp turbodiesel engine.
Initial rental is £1,049.70, with the full amount for the three-year lease coming in at £7,172.95 – versus £13,350 basic for an outright purchase.
All of the above come with the “Renault 4+” warranty and Renault Assistance – but then your lease will have ended well before the four years this covers you for, and if you hit the 100,000-mile limit you can expect some excess mileage charges on your rental agreement…

2016 is a good year for Renault vans
Renault is having a good 2016 – sales in the first half of the year were up over 20 percent compared to same period in 2015 to 13,435 registrations. That’s well ahead of the overall increase in UK van sales, which is running at 2.5 percent.
This follows a 40-percent increase in Renault van sales in 2015 versus 2014. But then, Renault has been the number one LCV brand in Europe for the last 18 years consecutively.
