Mercedes-Benz Vans has brought out a special-edition Urban trim on the Vito exclusively for UK customers. The new model has been adapted with the inner-city operator in mind, and includes features like an automatic transmission, reversing camera and satellite-navigation.
With all the traffic, tight spaces and confusing road signs, city driving is rarely pleasant, but the new Mercedes-Benz Urban aims to take the pain away and is available from £22,720 plus VAT (around £5,000 on top of a base-spec model).
Extra kit
On top of the already respectable equipment list on the Vito, Urban models receive a Map Pilot sat-nav system, which is integrated into the already-standard 5.8-inch display. We rate this system as it includes instrument cluster read-out (so you don’t have to keep looking at the main screen), an “efficient route” option and speed limit display.
There is also a reversing camera thrown in with dynamic guidelines to show the driver their projected path based on the steering angle applied.
Engine and driveline
Under the bonnet is the renowned 2.1-litre diesel engine, which is tuned to 135bhp and 330Nm and called the 114Cdi BlueTEC. Fitted with BlueEFFICIENCY technology, the Vito Urban achieves 46.3mpg on the combined fuel economy cycle.
Merc’s 7G-Tronic Plus, standard on the Vito Urban, is the only full torque-converter automatic transmission in the medium panel van sector, and therefore offers a higher level of fuel economy compared to the 44.1mpg of the manual, while reducing mechanical wear and tear and driver fatigue.
Pricing and availability
Prices start from £22,720 plus VAT on the 5.4 cubic metre Compact, and then extend up to £23,075 on the 6.3 cubic metre Long and £23,500 on the 7.4 cubic metre Extra Long. On hire purchase, there is zero-percent representative APR, although there is a maximum term of three years.
