Renault is going off-road with the launch of a Renault Master 4x4 and a range of enhanced-traction vans for operators who regularly travel on challenging terrain. The new models will be available from summer 2016.
X-Track conversions
The new X-Track versions come with a limited-slip differential, raised ground clearance, underbody protection and all-weather tyres, and are available on the Renault Kangoo, Renault Trafic and Renault Master.
It complements the existing Grip Xtend technology, designed to deliver enhanced grip for occasional use on less demanding terrain like wet grass and light mud. Grip Xtend is a standard feature of Renault’s Kangoo (except ZE electric models), Trafic and Master vans in Europe.
Renault Master 4x4
Renault has partnered with leading 4x4 equipment manufacturer Oberaigner to also offer a 4x4 variant of the Renault Master. The German company also provides the expertise for the Mercedes-Benz 4x4 and Vauxhall Movano 4x4.
Based on the rear-wheel drive Renault Master, the 4x4 version has a switchable centre-diff lock that engages all four wheels and offers a reduced 1:1.42 gearing ratio. The system has been developed for operators who encounter particularly difficult terrain and low-grip conditions on a regular basis; like construction, forestry and utility companies.
Pricing and availability
The X-Track versions are likely to cost an extra £1,000 to £2,000 and will be available in Europe from later in 2016. The Master 4x4 is set to be available from the summer 2016, and is expected to cost an extra £3,000 over standard variants. UK on sale dates will be announced in the coming months.
