In 1995 Colin McCrae became the first driver to win the World Rally Championship. Now, Luton-based White Hot Vans is paying tribute to the rally legend with a special-edition Ford Ranger that sports the same livery as the Scot’s famous winning Subaru Impreza.
Before his tragic death in 2007, McCrae was awarded an MBE and still retains his legendary reputation in the industry. Van leasing company White Hot Vans has recreated the look of the original winning car on the Ford Ranger, priced at about £25,000 (depending on specification).
“It’s 20 years since he became the only ever British winner of the World Rally Championship so we thought we would recreate the look of the old Ranger WRR XLT from a few years back – you hardly see any these days”, explains White Hot Vans managing director, Richard Bunn.
“We have wrapped a brand new Ranger Limited in performance blue with the Martini branding, and fitted sat nav. It’s pretty head-turning and a must for rally and motorsport fans everywhere.”
Under the bonnet is Ford’s renowned 3.2-litre five-pot, which generates a colossal 198bhp and 470Nm. The engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The current-generation model is available now, although the facelifted version won’t be available until January 2016.
“All these models are made for both work and play. They can tow a load of up to three and a half tonnes including a 50ft boat out of the water, so perfect for hard work but also high end with added luxuries such as sat-nav, rear view camera and cruise control to name a few.”
“However they are not too ostentatious, they are luxurious work horses which are both practical and versatile. We created the Martini Ranger because we love vintage vans and as such felt the now vintage tribute Ranger deserved resurrecting with a new modern version.”
