SsangYong has announced a cheap business contract hire offer for its Musso pickup truck. The scheme is available via Lex Autolease, and means businesses can lease a Musso from as little as £194 per month.

That figure is for a 36-month agreement on the entry level Musso SE, which has a basic list price of £15,995. The higher specification EX model (£17,995 list) is available for £219 a month, while the EX with the automatic transmission (£18,995) is temporarily yours for a £226 monthly payment.
According to SsangYong Motor UK CEO Paul Williams: ‘These rates are between £65 and £152 lower per month than for our nearest competitors – that’s a saving of between £2,641 and £5,472 over a three-year lease, and yet another way we are helping the small business save money.’

What are you getting for the money?
The SsangYong Musso is a double-cab pickup that will carry 1,050kg (so just over a tonne) and tow up to 3.0-tonnes. The 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine is powerful.
However, it’s much smaller than other pickups currently on sale, so the load area isn’t especially commodious.
It also suffers from a poor driving experience (the ride comfort in particular is highly peculiar) and some interesting interior ergonomics. So it really only suits those looking for a pickup at the lowest possible price.
Alternative choices
Budget buyers shopping outright even benefit from a five-year warranty, though this will be less of a selling point on a three-year lease. Cost-effective alternative buying choices are the Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi L200, which we rate as better all-rounders than the limited-duty Musso.
