Volkswagen has fired up the special edition gun, and launched a new Amarok Black Edition.
It comes in standard and Aventura packages, and the most expensive model tops £50k when you include the VAT.

What’s special about the VW Amarok Black Edition?
Would you believe that some of the special edition bits are black? Well, they are.
Based on the standard Highline trim level specification, all versions of the Black Edition include 20-inch Talca-design alloy wheels (black), styling bar (black), side bars (black) and polished trim strip on the grille (black).
The rear bumper, foglight surrounds and the ‘decorative dashboard insert’ are also black.
The fun doesn’t stop there, though. Black Edition buyers also get a Lights & Vision pack including automatic lights and wipers, plus sat-nav with European mapping and an off-road information display.
This is in addition to all the usual Amarok Highline stuff, such as front and rear parking sensors, Trailer Stabilisation and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.
Being an Amarok, you also get a 3.0-litre V6 TDI turbodiesel engine with either 204hp or 258hp.
What’s extra-special about VW Amarok Aventura Black Edition?
The Aventura version gets all of the above, as well as Nappa leather upholstery, ErgoComfort electrically adjustable front seats and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with paddleshifters.
Other toys include power-folding door mirrors and a cornering function for the front foglights, while as befits the name there’s additional protection for adventurous types in the form of a front under-body guard and a protective coating for the load compartment.
There’s also ‘styling’ for the under-body cladding. Which seems a bit weird.
The Aventura Black Edition comes only with the 258hp engine.
How much does the Amarok Black Edition cost?
Prices start at £34,835 for the 204hp Black Edition, £38,465 for the 258hp Black Edition and £40,995 for the 258hp Aventura Black Edition – and that’s basic, excluding VAT and on-the-road costs.
The means the most expensive version comes in at £50,277 OTR if the tax is added. Whoa.
Still, you do get an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive as standard, not to mention a 0-62mph time of around seven seconds.
Still keen to spend more? Then you’ll be pleased to know VW is keen to sell you matt-finish paint at a mere £2,420 – that’s a 24% discount over the regular price. No, really.
Buyers can also take advantage of a special fitted price on Mountain Top roll covers at £1,665.
