The beefed-up, durable and heavily enhanced Arctic Trucks version of the Isuzu D-Max is officially on sale.
It made its first official public appearance at the 2022 CV Show, alongside a specially created ‘Basecamp’ edition that features a rooftop tent and a miniature kitchenette unit.
Before you start planning extreme camping trips into spots a VW California could only dream of reaching, the Basecamp version is sadly only a one-off created for the show.
Camping ready
The Basecamp version comes with a lightweight iKamper SkyCamp Mini 3.0 rooftop tent, which has room for two and is accessed via an extendable ladder. It sits on top of a hardtop with a solid gullwing side and rear access doors.
The loading bay is fitted with a drawer system and a mini kitchen with a fridge, three-burner gas stove and a collapsible sink. The gas and water bottles sit on the top of the roof, in front of the tent.
The other changes over the standard AT35 include a front-facing light bar, a decal kit, 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with 35-inch mud terrain tyres.
What about the standard Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35?
The standard, but still heavily enhanced, D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 is also on display at the CV Show, having gone on sale in May 2022. This version is the first Arctic Trucks take on the new D-Max, which went on sale in 2021. It takes that vehicle and adds a range of visual and kit-based enhancements, geared towards making it more capable off road.
The AT35 name comes from the 35-inch tyres that are fitted as standard, which sit on 17-inch black alloy wheels. The suspension system has been comprehensively overhauled – it has been raised and created bespoke for the AT35. It sits 50mm higher than the standard D-Max.
The combination of this elevated suspension system and the vast off-road tyres means that the AT35 has 266mm of ground clearance at the front and 290mm at the rear, with an approach angle of 35 degrees.
All four wheelarches are extended to accommodate the extra wheel bulk, while bigger side steps, tougher mud flaps and fitment for tow balls, winches and rear-mounted steps is all added, too.
Specification is based on the range-topping V-Cross model, with a nine-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, leather interior a premium carpet set and Arctic Trucks and AT35 badging throughout.
Safety kit includes forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, manual and intelligent speed limiter, along with lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking. Because of the official nature of the project, it also maintains the Isuzu five-year/125,000-mile warranty. It also doesn’t lose out on any of its payload, which means it still qualifies for the commercial vehicle tax breaks.
Pricing starts at £47,999 CVOTR for the manual and £49,499 CVOTR for the auto model and it is available to order now.
